Kamil: What inspired you to develop your first AI-based project at such a young age, and how did that early experience shape the way you approach innovation today? Millena: My first AI-based project was born out of empathy. I had a friend in school who was undiagnosed with autism until he was 18. Seeing his struggle motivated me to apply my knowledge from the Brazilian Scientific Olympiads to create a tool that could help people like him. That early experience fundamentally shaped my view of innovation: I don’t see technology just as a technical challenge, but as a powerful way to uplift others and solve human problems. Kamil: You combine education, AI, and social impact in a powerful way. What advice would you give to young innovators who want to build projects that truly solve real-world problems — not just follow trends? Millena: To those who want to build something meaningful, I suggest looking closely at your own community. Don’t just follow global trends; find the specific problems that exist in your backyard and explore how current technologies can be integrated to solve them. Real impact comes from bridging the gap between cutting-edge tech and real-world needs. Kamil: As AI evolves at an extraordinary pace, how do you see the responsibility of young leaders in shaping ethical, safe, and human-centered artificial intelligence? Millena: As AI grants us unprecedented power, the responsibility of young leaders has never been greater. We are entering an era where individuals can wield immense influence through AI, which raises significant ethical concerns. It is our duty to ensure that the development of AI remains safe and human-centered, prioritizing ethical safeguards as much as technical capabilities. Kamil: Many people fear that AI could increase inequality. From your experience, how can AI instead become a tool to democratize education and opportunity globally? Millena: AI has the potential to be the great equalizer because it makes essential services significantly cheaper. Take medical consultations or high- quality education: these used to be expensive due to the high cost of human labor. With AI, we can provide private tutoring and expert-level guidance at a fraction of the cost, democratizing access to opportunity for people regardless of their economic background.
